ODNR, Army Corps Partner to Enhance Fishing at Mosquito Lake

September 22, 2015

AKRON, OH A local partnership has led to enhanced fishing opportunities at Mosquito Creek Lake in Trumbull Countyaccording to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR).

On September 10, 2015, ODNR Division of Wildlife fish management crews partnered with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers- Mosquito Lake Office (USACE) to place eleven Porcupine Crib Junior structures in the lake.

"These structures imitate natural woody debris and provide anglers with locations to focus on since fish will associate with this type of structure," said Division of Wildlife fish biologist and project manager, Matt Wolfe.

The structures were placed across the face of the dam in eight to 14-feet of water. GPS coordinates are N 41o 18' 1.0" / W 80 o 45' 29.0" to N 41o 18' 4.4" / W 80 o 45' 19.7" using the NAD83 map datum.

Staff members from the ODNR Division of Wildlife and the USACE built structures out of hardwood and weighed them down with cinder blocks. These structures will last for many years and anglers should be able to locate them fairly easily by using their depth finders.
