72 Hours... and counting

September 22, 2010 - Travis Hunt

Gentlemen (and an ever growing number of ladies) start your engines.  No this is not NASCAR but we have turned on our engines as we await the crack of dawn on the Ohio 2010-2011 archery season.  Saturday morning, as the sun breaks the horizon where will you be?  I know you won't let me in on your secret.  After all you have been watching this one particular buck on your game camera for too many days.  Though you have pictures of a few bucks, only one makes you sit up and take note. No, his rack is not overly wide but it is very tall and thick.  This buck looks more lake a transplant from the Texas hill country than one home grown in the woods of Ohio.  Regardless, this is the one.

You have been watching this one particular buck on your game camera that is positioned on the perimeter of the clover and winter wheat food plot that you planted a few months ago in anticipation of Saturday morning.  Yes you toiled in the summer heat as you prepared your food plot and poisoned the competing weeds and grass.  That particular buck appears on your game camera like a visiting ghost..... as quickly as he is there he fades back into the mist.

Jump back to the here and now, we are almost ready, but we will do one last "sight in" on the bows this afternoon.  We will do one last filing of the feeders.  We will do one scent free washing of the clothes.  We will do one last checking of the alarm clock as we settle in for the sleepless slumber.  Before you dream of that one particular close your eyes and say a prayer for health, safety and the true flying arrows.  Greetings from the woods of Ohio.... let us know your well laid plans for the bow opener.
